Synthesis and application of hydrous magnesium oxysulfate whisker

Materials have become the basis for the development of modern science and technology. With the rapid progress in modern inorganic synthesis technology and composite material research, the outstanding performances of crystal whiskers characterized with a micron scale in particular, magnesium base crystal whiskers have witnessed increasing applications and market demands. There are abundant magnesium-containing brine resources in salt lakes, and excessive industrial byproduct Mg(OH)2 would be inevitably produced during the process of salt lake exploitation. The research of this dissertation indicated that rejected brine, after being extracted of lithium and potassium, and the byproduct Mg(OH)2 can be deployed as raw materials for preparing highly valuable magnesium-based crystal whiskers, which helps promote the comprehensive utilization of salt lakes, and benefits the industrial production of the crystal whiskers. 集群智慧云企服,专利申请,软件著作权申请,商标注册www.jiqunzhihui.net
The dissertation gives a systematic summary of the history and present research of hydrous magnesium oxysulfate (MgSO4•5Mg(OH)2•3H2O, also called 153MOS) and MgO crystal whisker, and the growth mechanisms of the crystal whiskers from solution systems. The dissertation covers three parts: 1) the investigation of best synthetic conditions of 153MOS whisker from rejected brine and the byproduct Mg(OH)2, as well as MgO whisker from 153MOS; 2) the characterization of the physical and chemical performances of 153MOS and MgO crystal whiskers; 3) the pyrolysis of 153MOS crystal whisker and its non-isothermal pyrolysis kinetics. Results are as follows:
1. The best synthetic conditions of 153MOS whisker from rejected brine and industrial byproduct Mg(OH)2, and MgO whisker from 153MOS whisker by staged calcinations and prolonged calcinations were obtained and optimized. Discussions of the effect of the quality of raw materials on the crystal shape of whiskers were made. And post-processes were devised to purify the products. As a result, crystal whiskers with fine and even shapes were obtained.

2. Analysis of powder XRD spectra and FT-IR spectra indicated that: 153MOS crystal whisker belongs to the Face C-Orthorhombic system. Its lattice parameters are: a=15.94 Å, b=3.11 Å, c=13.38 Å. The infrared characteristic adsorption peaks are 3660.82 cm-1,3610.15 cm-1,3421.16 cm-1,1637.61 cm-1,1117.41 cm-1,816.30 cm-1,and 642.19 cm-1. The density is 1.1292 g•cm-3 and the BET specific surface area is 5.1743 m2•g-1.
MgO crystal whisker belongs to the cubic system. Its lattice parameters are: a = b = c = 4.213 Å. The infrared characteristic adsorption peak is 553.48 cm-1. The BET specific surface area is 6.2716 m2·g-1 and the chemical content of MgO is 99.95%.
3. The pyrolysis of 153MOS crystal whisker and the non-isothermal pyrolysis kinetics were studied and discussed. The whole pyrolysis is made up of 5 steps: 1) and 2) dehydration of one and two crystal waters, 3) dehydration of five structure waters, 4) deoxygenation, 5) desulfuration, respectively.
